Chloé Hoquet, Ethical Artisan Jeweler and Creator

Chloé Hoquet, an artisan jeweler, combines tradition and ethics to create unique jewelry pieces. In this interview, she shares her journey, inspirations, and collaboration with Dalloz Stones & Rough, reflecting her commitment to responsible and contemporary jewelry.

Hello Chloé, can you introduce yourself?

I am Chloé Hoquet, an artisan jeweler and ethical creator. My work is rooted in an approach that blends the promotion of traditional craftsmanship with respect for living beings.

I create unique pieces inspired by ancient goldsmithing and modern art, as well as bespoke jewelry. Each piece is entirely handcrafted using recycled gold and set with lab-grown precious stones.

My journey has been marked by key moments that led me to fully embrace my career as a jewelry creator.

After studying applied arts and receiving in-depth training in a jewelry workshop on Place Vendôme, I quickly felt the need to give a different meaning to my work.

I then decided to create my own designs, based on strong values: artistic craftsmanship, transmission of knowledge, and respect for life.

Every step of this journey—from the first sketches to the opening of my workshop—has been driven by my desire to offer an authentic, artistic, and sustainable vision of jewelry making.

What fascinates me most about my work is the transformation of raw materials into a creation.

Working with precious materials such as gold and gemstones allows me to bring to life jewelry pieces that embody imagination, emotions, and stories.

I also appreciate the precision and patience required at every stage of the crafting process. It is a delicate balance between technique and aesthetics, where every detail matters.

For me, this profession is a form of artistic expression that connects me to traditional craftsmanship, past civilizations, and the present moment.

My creative process is based on a constant dialogue between the idea and the material. It all begins with an inspiration phase. I allow my sensitivity of the moment to flow freely while drawing from my knowledge of art history.

I start by sketching to develop the first drafts. Once a design is validated, I source precious metals and gemstones from responsible suppliers such as Dalloz Stones & Rough.

I then begin shaping the material, always using traditional methods such as chiseling, mounting, and setting. Every step is meticulously handcrafted, with an infinite attention to detail, ensuring that each piece embodies the emotions I wish to convey.

My sources of inspiration vary depending on the project—whether it’s a unique creation or a bespoke piece.

For my own designs, I draw inspiration from ancient goldsmithing, organic textures, and modern art, particularly archaic forms and geometric abstraction. This fusion reflects a quest for timelessness and authenticity, where each piece of jewelry tells a unique story. My artistic approach aims to capture the essence of life while honoring traditional craftsmanship, creating unique pieces that transcend fleeting trends.

When it comes to bespoke jewelry, it is often the personal stories of my clients that move me and guide my artistic choices. Each creation is an alchemy between what surrounds me and what is entrusted to me.

Rooted in a millennia-old heritage, I strive to embed my creations within the tradition of master artisans. In my workshop, as a contrast to the increasing industrialization of the jewelry industry, I use only traditional techniques to craft unique creations and bespoke jewelry.

Among these methods, I employ classic jewelry-making techniques (design, gold casting, shaping, assembling, setting…), which I combine with engraving and chiseling.

This expertise was passed down to me by a master chiseler during my apprenticeship at the École Boulle. Chiseling encompasses various ways of sculpting metal, allowing me to shape and texture it in multiple ways, enhancing its brilliance and contrasts.

These artisanal techniques help preserve a human and authentic dimension in each of my creations.

“Auxilia” Ring – Chiseled Recycled Gold and Lab-Grown Diamonds

Among my creations, the “Auxilia” ring holds a special place. It was my very first piece, and I would even say it was the first material expression of my inspirations.

Crafted from recycled gold and set with lab-grown diamonds, Auxilia embodies a delicate balance between strength and elegance. It draws inspiration from ancient symbols, reinterpreted in a contemporary aesthetic. It evokes the image of a protective eye, with chiseled gold revealing a vibrant texture that interacts harmoniously with the geometric lines of the stones.

Auxilia is more than a ring—it is a sculptural piece, celebrating the power and timelessness of simple forms. It reflects the essence of my work: the meeting point between fine craftsmanship and my ethical commitment.

My collaboration with Dalloz Stones & Rough was born from a shared desire to merge artistic craftsmanship with ethical jewelry-making.

We share the same values of responsibility and resource conservation, and I was captivated by their expertise and innovative approach to high-quality synthetic gemstones.

This partnership has opened new creative possibilities while allowing me to stay true to my responsible design philosophy.

Two of my creations perfectly illustrate this collaboration:

  • The “Rhombe” ring: Featuring geometric lines and recycled gold, this ring highlights blue sapphires, including two eco-grown synthetic sapphire corundums developed by Dalloz Stones & Rough.
  • The “Eiar” necklace: Inspired by nature and organic forms, this pendant is set with eco-grown ruby corundums from Dalloz Stones & Rough.

Both pieces feature triangular-cut stones, an uncommon shape in jewelry that allows me to translate my artistic inspirations into unique compositions. These creations embody a perfect harmony between art, traditional craftsmanship, and technological innovation—a fusion of seemingly opposing skills that come together to define a jewelry style that is creative, sustainable, and environmentally conscious.

To summarize, working with Dalloz enables me to explore new ways of creating while staying true to my vision of meaningful, artisanal jewelry. This collaboration allows me to offer ethical, contemporary, and timeless jewelry—pieces that honor both heritage and innovation.

Through her creations, Chloé Hoquet embodies a bold vision of jewelry-making: a delicate balance between tradition and innovation, craftsmanship and ethical commitment. Her collaboration with Dalloz Stones & Rough reflects her desire to merge excellence with responsibility, exploring new ways to enhance materials while respecting the environment.

Her approach proves that fine craftsmanship can be both timeless and forward-thinking. Each piece of jewelry becomes more than just an ornament—it tells a story, one of preserved and reinvented artistry, crafted with passion.
